Fans were left stunned on Nov. 17 when Charlie Sheen revealed he's HIV-positive. And now, the actor's ex-wife, Denise Richards, is worried that the revelation will affect his mental health.
“Denise fears he could go into a self-destruction mode,” a source says about the 44-year-old actress. “She knows very well Charlie’s extremely emotional and volatile. One minute he’s up and within seconds, he could flip and go to a very dark place."
The secret has already opened him up to lawsuits and a judgmental public, which Denise fears will lead him down a dangerous path.
“[She's] been in constant contact with [him] since he’s publicly announced his status,” the source tells Hollywood Life of the blonde beauty, who has two daughters with the 50-year-old. “[She's] always supported him with this in the past but now she feels Charlie needs her more than ever.”

As Life & Style previously reported, Denise and Charlie's other ex, Brooke Mueller, have known about his diagnosis since 2011, but the Wall Street star just recently told his eldest daughter, Cassandra, 30, whose mom was Charlie's high school girlfriend.
"It hit her hard, but she recovered. She's tough like her dad," he said in an interview with Today. "I have a responsibility now to better myself and to help a lot of other people."
